PORTVILLE COMMUNITY DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS
“Investing in our Children’s Future”
What is PCDS?
We are a group of local citizens working voluntarily to raise and distribute scholarship money to graduating seniors from the Portville community who would like to continue their education beyond high school.
Our chapter is affiliated with the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America (CFSA), a national tax-exempt program founded in 1958 with 765 chapters nationwide. In 1996, the 765 chapters distributed $9.2 million to approximately 16,700 students. There are currently 287 colleges and universities participating in the Scholars’ Collegiate Partners Program, including 120 institutions that match chapter awards. Our Portville chapter was founded in 2001.
How are scholarships awarded?
Award recipients are determined by the Portville Community Dollars for Scholars Committee using CSFA guidelines. Scholarship applications are scored anonymously and awards are made on the basis of:
v Work experience
v School and community involvement
v Future plans
v Special circumstances
v Appraisals
v Recommendations
v Academics
v Student’s participation to Portville Community Dollars for Scholars
How are funds provided?
Funds are raised through special activities sponsored by PCDS. An annual phone-a-thon will be held seeking individual contributors. The foundation also manages trusts, memorials, endowments and grants.
